The 18th Annual Hayti Heritage Film Festival - Critique #1

I'm sitting at home working on a fundraiser for a client when I get an email from another client telling me about a film festival in Durham.  Eh?  What film festival?  Rob Underhill invited her and she called me.  Hey, I'm down, I need to get out of the house anyway.  I finish up my lil' to do list and get ready for the unheard of film festival.

I'm late getting to my client's house per the usual, imma do better (it wasn't entirely my fault you would think free Starbucks was being distributed at the ATM, IJS).  We head off to the festival.

Never knew the Hayti hosted a film festival and I've been back in the Triangle since 1998. I've been to 3 events at the Hayti and has signed up for their email blasts each visit and have yet to receive 1 email.  Mad.

When we pull up, we're kinda disappointed because this is the 18th annual film festival there are not many cars in the lot.  *SIDE-EYE*

Oh Lord, what has my client brought me to?  I threw out some expectations with my gum and kept the minimum as I headed inside. It's 7:30pm, we've only missed 10 mins of the movie.  Uhmmm- it was suppose to start at 7:00pm.  Is this black folk or we needed to see this film, huh?

Payin' The Price -  Jordan Coleman
"Payin' the Price was written and directed by Coleman when he was 14 years old.  It's a cautionary tale for teens about dating violence...the story of 17 yo Jazz Johnson whose privileged life is turned upside down when a beautiful young girl from the "wrong:" side of the tracks accuses him of brutally assaulting her..."  <--- I didn't read any of this prior to watching the movie.
