What is self-concept you ask? Self-concept is how you see yourself. Some may view themselves with the lights on, and others may view themselves with the lights off. Ultimately the way one perceives life will dictate their entire way of living. For example if you only see negative that is what will surround you. If you see the positive then that will surround you.

To develop a healthy self-concept, you must have an understanding of who you are. How do you perceive yourself as it relates to others and your surroundings? Once you are confident in whom you are, than you can begin to love you. Once you are in love with you, you can be comfortable with all parts of you and stay true to who you are.

Let’s clear a few things up. Self-esteem and self concept are two different entities. Having high self-esteem is a good thing; however it is based on emotions and external factors. Often we depend on outside influences to maintain our self-esteem i.e. Physical attributes, status, material possessions. This can lead to many disappointments. Looks may fade, money may go, and your position in life can be downsized. So you ask what the point of it all is. We must develop our self-worth internally. Look within yourself and become familiar with the intricacies of who you are. Embrace all your parts and develop them to your perfection. Then become confident in who you are and who you will become. Once this is accomplished your self-worth will enhance your self-confidence which will knock your self-esteem out the park. When you know who you are and are confident in whom you are external factors won’t determine your self-concept. You will feel good internally, because of the relationship you have created with yourself. So go ahead get started, and develop your self-concept, you will be a force to be reckoned with.

Remember, Self-worth over self-esteem
