As a business owner who networks with other professionals, I keep hearing people say “no one” a lot.  Two examples – “No one can offer the kind of product/service/etc. that I can” or “I have to do everything because no one else does it the way I do.”  That may very well be true but using “no one” in a sentence to a prospective customer will kill your sale.  I have caught myself saying it a couple of times.  Businesses thrive on competition.  What gets people to listen to and buy from you or your company is the WOW factor that your product/service/etc. has -– whatever makes your “stuff” the all out best stuff they can buy to solve whatever problem/issues the customer is having.

Saying “no one” sounds like one of those salespeople years ago with the tonics that cured everything.  We all know that it was a concoction made to take people’s money.  There are still products around like that, and you don’t want your prospective customer visualizing how you will take their money, and they won’t have what they need to resolve their problem/issue.

One of the keys to success in any business is using your words to create a picture in the customer’s mind of the value your product/service offers them.  When you feed their ego (people love to feel good about themselves), speak to their needs (show them that you care about them and their issues) and offer solutions (your product/service/etc.), you will get the sale.  It’s not about you.  It’s about your customer – always.  Ask questions and listen to your customer.  When you do, “no one” will be removed from your vocabulary, and you’ll be a much more successful business owner with a lot of word of mouth referrals.
