I look back in amazement. I stopped using the creamy crack back in 1999 when the internet was still considered "new". I didn't have Facebook, meetup or any of the resources available today. The first book I can remember was Natural Woman/ Natural Hair by T'Keyah Crystal Keymáh. I also remember there was only like 2-3 other naturals on campus. I felt soo along in my journey but so elated that I truly was Naturally Me. I'm telling yall I didn't even see many like me on blackplanet.com or collegeclub.com.
I was only able to really see that beautiful black pride when I traveled, I went to NY, DC & many black student conferences. This is where I saw head wraps, beautiful african prints and soo much more. I remember it looking like School Daze! I also remember coming home and family asking me why or "You know you won't find a job with your hair like that."
Now fast forward to today where everything is at your fingertips thanks to goggle, facebook and sites like CurlyNikki, Black Girl with Long Hair, Naturally Free To Be Me. You now have blogs & vlogs to help you on your journey and products galore. I look at all this and say Wow with a huge smile on my face at how far we have come in loving our selves. Thank you Assata Shakur for helping me see the light. I love seeing all the black beauty & pride in self.
