   Diabetes is the leading cause for amputations in the U.S. There are 85,000 amputations performed each year due to foot problems. Many of these issues are preventable, that is why Therapeutic Footwear is so important for diabetics. They are a conservative first line defense against complications that can lead to ulcers, amputations & ultimately death.

 For a shoe to be considered as Therapeutic, it must meet certain qualifications. It must come in at least 3 true widths, have extra depth, be completely seam free on the inside & have some type of closure. The reason for this is to make sure a proper fit can be achieved & to lessen the possibilty of irritating the foot.These shoes are often partially or fully covered by Medicare or other private insurance. You are entitled to one pair of shoes every year.

  In order to qualify for Therapeutic Footwear you must be a diabetic & meet at least 1 of the following:

• History of complete or partial amputation of the foot
• History of previous foot ulceration
• History of pre-ulcerative callus
• Peripheral neuropathy (numbness or tingling in your feet) with callus formation
• Foot Deformity
• Poor Circulation
