OMG!!! Female Black Student Cheated of Valedictorian Honors over 75 years ago- finally gets rewarded
Are you kidding me, in a Pittsburgh town and over 75 years ago- The principle(intentionally not capitalized) at Westinghouse High ordered teachers to lower a students grade so that she wouldn't be the 2nd black Valedictorian in 2 years and amazingly the 2nd of her family, as her sister, Sophia, had accomplished the honor just 2 years previous.
A Music teacher took him up on his request, by dropping her music grade from an "A" to a "B". By doing that the late Ms. Fannetta dropped in her class from 1st to 4th and people wonder why we celebrate BLACK successes to this day. Just the other day on our FB fan page a guy asked me, why do we have to point out when a person is black or white(when referring to the 23 black kids that scored perfect on state test) well... here you have it, just like Fannetta's sister, Sophia, said- "we knew we had to be better- but we were never equal, even though she went on to to have some successes in life- "she never really got over it"
Another reason that I have created this site Black Folk Hot Spots- and just like marching with Dr. King back in the day- he had a few other ethic groups marching with him as we do here on Black Folk Hot Spots- and to that guy- "please don't ask me that again" because THIS STORY HERE IS WHY!!!
