I am a preservationist with emphasis on the Gullah Culture located on the Southeastern coast of the US.  This indigenous culture's roots begin in Western African, during the Slave trade were brought to Charleston, S. C. as the labor for rice plantations. The Gullah people were placed on isolated sea islands and were able to maintain much of their African heritage including a creole language, food ways, music, stories and a communal way of life that exist today. We as a group are seeking to gather national and international support for the preservation and development of this unique culture.  I invite you all to become a part of this effort.  You may ask yourself how can I support the effort there are many ways, the efforts we are promoting now are ways to increase awareness of the Gullah people through traditional crafts.  The "Community Rag Quilting Project" is traveling throughout the state of South Carolina and our intent is to travel the United States with the assistance of groups and organizations to complete these quilts. The idea is to have hands-on participation of people from around the country to solidify the concept that we are all a part of one community.  Please share this information with your members, friends, family with any one you meet.  We look forward to bringing the The Community Rag Quilting Project to your city and state.
