#Atlanta: Alice Walker and Pearl Cleage Creativity Conversation October 2nd Open to Public October 2, 2012

Atlanta-based novelist and playwright Pearl Cleage joins writer Alice Walker for a conversation focused on their creative influences, the writers they read, and how they’ve been inspired by each other’s work.

Creativity Conversations takes place Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 4PM, Cannon Chapel at Emory University, 515 Kilgo Circle, Atlanta Ga 30322

Free and open to public, limited seating.  Plan to arrive early.

One of the nation’s most important living writers, Alice Walker has authored 26 books that span the genres of the novel, poetry and the essay. In 1983 she won the Pulitzer Prize and the American Book Award for her novel “The Color Purple,” which has been adapted for film and stage. Walker placed her archive at Emory in 2007.

Pearl Cleage is best known for her novels “What Looks Like Crazy on an Ordinary Day”(an Oprah Book Club selection) and “Babylon Sisters,”both of which are being adapted for film, as well as for her plays “Blues for an Alabama Sky”and “Flyin’ West.”An Atlanta resident, Cleage earned a bachelor’s in drama from Spelman College in 1969.  

Her latest theatrical production, “What I Learned in Paris,”is running Sept. 5-30 at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre, where she is in residence as its first artist in dialogue.
